Two years ago, I carved out a little corner of our front yard and planted wildflowers in Spokane with a vision in mind. Not only for curb appeal and gardening bragging rights, but I also wanted a beautiful, natural photography backdrop right outside my door.
This June, that vision finally came to life.
If you’re hoping to photograph wildflowers in Spokane, timing matters. Around Spokane, June is pure magic. The blooms are at their peak, colors are vibrant, and fields are bursting with reds, yellows, purples, and greens before summer heat begins to fade them. Whether you’re looking for wildflowers in Spokane for family photos, senior portraits, or simply to enjoy nature, June is hands-down the best month to experience them.
The wildflower corner delivered exactly what I had hoped for—a dreamy, colorful setting that felt straight out of a storybook.
And the best part? My daughter Aubrey became the very first full senior session photographed there.
As I photographed her, I was focused on light, composition, and creating images she’d love. But it wasn’t until I sat down to edit that the emotions hit me.
She hasn’t even started her senior year yet. She just wrapped up her junior year. Yet there I was, looking through image after image, realizing that we’re standing at the edge of a huge transition. The little girl who used to pick out every pink item in her closet to wear in one outfit is preparing for her final year of high school.
Cue the tears.
These images are just the beginning. Aubrey has always had a creative eye and a million ideas, so this is only one chapter of her senior portrait experience. We have several more sessions planned with completely different looks, locations, and inspiration. Think of this as the opening scene of her senior story.
For now, though, I’m soaking in these moments among the flowers. The colors are beautiful, the photographs are everything I hoped they’d be, and the memories attached to them are even better.
One of my goals when creating this space was to offer clients access to gorgeous wildflowers in Spokane without needing to drive to a remote location. While I’d still like to add taller blooms and more variety over the coming years for standing portraits and small groups, this first session exceeded every expectation I had.
If you’re considering senior portraits surrounded by vibrant blooms, June is the month to make it happen. Sometimes the most beautiful wildflowers in Spokane are the ones you’ve been growing right in your own backyard.
