Downtown Spokane Senior Portraits

This is part 2 (well, 1st half of her shoot) of Sidney’s senior portrait session. You can view part one of her blog here where we played around at the Spokane County Fair. As I mentioned previously, Sidney knew she wanted super unique architecture, fun and busy senior portraits that would help show off her personality. The word “busy” let me know that downtown Spokane was definitely our first location of her 2-location senior portrait experience.  Not just anywhere in downtown Spokane would work. We needed “busy” and “unique” which told me, not the typical brick wall or green door. With Spokane being such a great small town, it is difficult to shoot where no one else has before. I tell my high school seniors, “I can photograph 10 different people in the same location and get 10 completely different photo shoots. It’s all in capturing your personality.” My mind immediately went to the area surrounding Monroe Street Bridge. I knew this urban location would offer a busy atmosphere, great textures, and variety to help accentuate Sidney’s confident and outgoing personality. We discussed wardrobe, which colors to wear, and the mood that we wanted to feel from the photos. Consultations are everything! Make sure you meet with me at least two weeks before your senior session so we can set expectations and have a few laughs together.

Sidney’s 2-location senior portrait session included professional makeup application, so her day with me began at my downtown Spokane studio to meet with Makeup By Evelyn Mauro. As with EVERY high school senior session, Evelyn applied just enough makeup to enhance Sidney’s naturally beautiful features. We don’t add fake lashes, we don’t apply heavy eye shadow, nor do we over-power the look with a bold lip-color. The goal with high school makeup is to balance out skin tones and add a pop of vibrancy for the camera. We never want to look at the photos and say, “wow…that doesn’t even look like me.” We want you to look like the 17 year-old you that you are today!

Sidney did a fantastic job picking out her earth tone wardrobe for her Downtown Spokane senior portraits and colorful and statement-making wardrobe for the fair portion (see those fun and colorful photos here!) That’s tone of many benefits of a 2-location senior package, you get to shoot in two completely different settings to match all your different sides of you 😀
